Manage ZenBEACON with ZenduONE

Manage ZenBEACON with ZenduONE

Introduction

This article will walk you through how to efficiently manage and monitor your ZenBEACONs after you’ve completed the setup and configuration on the beacon and gateway sides.

Notes
Note: In order for beacons to appear in ZenduONE, you must meet the following requirements:
  1. The beacon must be powered on and configured.
  2. The gateway must be properly enabled for bluetooth (examples of gateways are ZenCAM PLUS, Geotab IOX Bluetooth, ZenTRACK, etc).
  3. The beacon must be within proximity of the gateway.
If you are missing any of the above requirements, refer to the applicable articles linked below.

In this guide, we’ll cover how to add your beacons to ZenduONE, track beacon activity, configure exceptions and rules, and monitor real-time measurements to optimize your operations. With ZenduONE, managing your fleet and assets with ZenBEACON becomes even easier, offering comprehensive visibility and control.

Add Beacons to ZenduONE

  1. Create a new asset in the “Assets” module.

  2. Fill out name, groups, and any other relevant info pertaining to your beacon.

  3. In the “Settings” tab, select “BLE Beacon” as the Tracker Type.

  4. Input the beacon’s MAC Address in the “MAC Id” field, with no colons or spaces.

  5. Fill out any more applicable information in the following tabs, then hit "Save".

Tracking the Beacons in Maps > Overview

If a beacon was successfully added to the database, it will now appear in Maps > Overview. By default, if the beacon is within 10-30m* of a camera registered in the database, it will automatically connect to the camera and show in a submenu of the camera.
Notes
* This range will change if the default beacon configurations are updated.

Beacon Icons

Each beacon shows measurements through icons directly in the main Maps > Overview page. Below is a breakdown of what these icons represent.

Last Known Location

To see the location of a beacon (last known location if offline), click on the beacon from the assets list in Maps > Overview.
NotesNote: The beacon itself does not have GPS. The location is based on the location of the last connected gateway.

Exceptions/Rules

Setting Up Rules in Admin > Rules

You can set up rules for beacons in Admin > Rules > Create Rule.

Notes
For more guidance on creating rules, visit the following articles:
  1. ZenduONE User Guide - Rules
  2. ZenduONE Rule Types

The rule types applicable to beacons can be found upon selecting either "General" or "BLE Beacon" as the Rule Source.

If you select the "General" category, you can use the following Rule Types for beacons:
  1. Offline more than
  2. Battery level less than
  3. Temperature
  4. Humidity
  5. Enter/exit/inside location

If you select the "BLE Beacon" category, you can use the following Rule Types for beacons:

  1. Door open/close
  2. Door Sensor Removed
  3. Trigger Button
  4. Motion Detection
Notes
Note: Some rule types are only applicable to certain beacon models. For example, only ZenDoor is able to use "Door open/close" and "Door Sensor Removed". Refer to the measurements breakdown later in this article for more insight.

For example, we can set up a rule for when a door is open for more than 30 secs. It would look something like this:

In the rule above, a user will receive an email notification when the selected ZenDoor is open for more than 30 seconds. In addition, an exception will be created and can be viewed in the Exceptions tab of a beacon.

Monitoring Beacon Exceptions

From Maps > Overview, you can click on a beacon to open its details. By default, it takes you to the Exceptions tab. This is where you can find the log of all instances where a rule was triggered.

In the above example, we see that the ZenDoor sensor was opened and removed various times between March 9th and March 15. You can view exceptions for different date ranges as well, by modifying the date range selector in the top.

Each exception shows:

  1. Name of rule triggered
  2. Attached gateway at time of exception (In above example, it's 00D2012A48, the serial number of a ZenCAM PLUS)
  3. Date & time of exception

Measurements

Next to the Exceptions tab, you can find the Measurements tab. This is where you can see detailed breakdowns and logs of a particular beacon's measurements.

Clicking into a specific measurement will show a historical log of the recorded data (within the selected date range), which includes a both a graph and table view.

Notes
You can click the icons at the top to print or export an Excel file of the table.
In addition, each beacon model gives us different measurements. Refer to the table below for the breakdown:
