ZenBUS Troubleshooting Guide

ZenBUS Solution by Zenduit

1. Overview:

  • The ZenBUS solution offers two services: School Bus and Shuttle.
  • Both services use the Geotab GO9 with the ProPlus plan.
  • School Bus service includes add-ons such as IOX NFC readers and tags for attendance tracking.

2. Core Components:

  • Geotab GO9 Device: Installed in buses for GPS tracking and real-time data.
  • ProPlus Plan: Offers advanced tracking, reporting, and notifications.
  • IOX NFC Readers: Used in the school bus service to track student attendance by scanning NFC tags.
  • Admin Web Application: Admins can manage routes, travelers (students), and guardians (parents).
  • Mobile App: Parents can view bus locations, get notifications, and track their children’s bus activity.

3. Key Features:

  • Route Management: Admins can create, edit, and manage routes, including custom stops, waypoints, and depots.
  • Traveler & Guardian Management: Admins assign NFC tags to students and link them to guardians for real-time notifications.
  • Notifications: Parents receive push notifications when the bus is nearing stops or when students tap on/off.
  • ETA & Waypoints: System calculates ETA based on predefined routes, and waypoints can be added for optimized or manual routing.

4. Shuttle Service Features:

  • Similar to school bus service, but with more flexibility for custom routes and public URL sharing.
  • ETAs are calculated based on stop durations and waypoints.
  • Public URL: Users can access bus route and location information through a shared URL.

Troubleshooting Issues:

1. Geotab GO9 Device Issues:

  • Device Offline: The device may go offline due to power or connectivity issues. Check if the unit is receiving power and ensure the SIM card has an active data connection.
  • ProPlus Plan Configuration: Ensure the Geotab GO9 is activated with the ProPlus plan to support the advanced features.

2. NFC Reader Problems:

  • Reader Not Scanning: If the NFC reader is not functioning, check for hardware malfunctions or improper installation. Also, verify that the NFC tags are correctly assigned and activated.
  • Attendance Not Updating: If a student’s attendance isn’t being recorded, ensure the NFC tag is functioning, the reader is connected properly, and the system is receiving real-time updates.

3. Route and Waypoint Configuration Errors:

  • ETA Calculation Inaccuracy: If ETA calculations are incorrect, verify that stop durations and waypoints are set properly. Adding more waypoints for accuracy can help.
  • Incorrect Routing: Check if there are any missed waypoints or incorrect map coordinates. Recreate or edit the route if necessary.

4. Admin Web Application Issues:

  • Route Not Visible: If routes aren’t displaying, ensure the routes are properly configured and saved. Also, check the admin’s access permissions.
  • Guardian or Traveler Assignment Errors: Verify that all guardians are correctly added with valid email addresses and phone numbers. Ensure travelers (students) are linked to the right guardians.

5. Mobile App Issues:

  • Notifications Not Working: Check if push notifications are enabled in the app settings. Verify that the mobile app is linked to the correct guardian and traveler data.
  • Location Not Updating: If the real-time location of the bus isn’t updating, check the connectivity of the GO9 device and ensure that the bus is within the network coverage area.

6. Public URL Problems (Shuttle Service):

  • URL Not Accessible: Ensure the public URL is properly generated and shared. Test the URL in multiple browsers and devices to ensure accessibility.
  • Bus Location Not Updating: Similar to the mobile app, check if the GO9 device is connected and reporting data in real time.

7. Depot Hiding Issues (Shuttle Service):

  • Bus Still Visible in Depot: If buses are visible within the depot geofence, recheck the geofence settings and radius to ensure the depot hiding feature is properly configured.

8. General Connectivity Problems:

  • GPS/Network Outage: In case of GPS or network issues, ensure that the bus has clear access to the sky for satellite connectivity and that the mobile network coverage is sufficient in the operating area.

9. Import Function Failures:

  • Guardian/Traveler Data Import Problems: If the import function isn’t working, ensure the data file is correctly formatted and contains valid information. Verify any error logs for further diagnostics.

Best Practices:

  • Always start with adding Guardians before assigning Travelers to ensure the proper linkage of data.
  • Use waypoints generously to improve the accuracy of ETAs and routing.
  • Regularly update firmware on the GO9 devices and ensure the system is configured according to the latest software updates from Zenduit.
