Types of media errors

This article illustrates the types of media errors a smartwitness device can report.

  • Error Types:
    • Media Error: Protected
      • Write-protect switch on
      • NOTE: some SD card errors may display as “Protected”, but is actually a result of pseudo bad blocks detected on SD. This is rare, as seemingly traceable back to a specific SD card batch from March 2019. MediaFormat has recovered these errors in the cases we’ve had so far.
    • Media Error: Write Error
      • Data cannot be written due to SD corruption or reserve sectors full.
    • Media Error: Full
      • SD card is full and overwrites setting is off (all SmartWitness devices have overwritten mode ON by default, this error should not be seen)
    • Media Error: No SD
      • SD card is not inserted into the device
    • Media Error: Door Open
      • CP4 units only. This indicates that the SD card door latch is not closed.
    • Media Error: No Media Errors
      • Acknowledgment that MediaFormat request was successful
      • NOTE: if you continue to see the Write Errors Media Error type shortly AFTER you've received the "No Media Errors" acknowledgment message, this is an indication of SD card degradation and the SD card should be replaced.
